Cassidy Traver - Coaching Director

The Beginning

I started playing hockey when I was 5 years old. The story starts the same as most Canadian Hockey stories do.. Timbits Hockey, playing on outdoor rinks and the rest is history. The path less travelled

however is that of the goalie. I started playing in net when I was 11 and played competitively throughout my life. Playing for the Niagara Falls Thunder (and later Canucks) and also for the St. Michael Mustangs and competing in back to back OFSAA championships.

The Need

Once my competitive playing career was over after 15+ years. I wanted to do something impactful that I felt was missing my whole playing career. Growing up, I noticed there was a serious lack in goalie development on most hockey teams. This wasn't because the coaches didn't want to help. They simply didn't have the experience or knowledge to give the same development to a goaltender as they could to forwards, or defence. Growing through this and being left to my own devices to figure things out, I wanted to set out and provide what I would have loved to experience back then.

Coaching & Qualifications

I first got into coaching in 2014, helping coach a goalie for a house league team here in Niagara Falls. Rather than just verbally directing. I worked with him at the start of every practice passing down the knowledge I had gained over my time playing and what I had learned through studying NHL goalies. For the 17'-18' season I stepped in as a goalie coach for the St.Michael Mustangs High School Varsity Team. This was working with athletes in grade 11 &12 and was a much bigger, better challenge. I was able to continue to develop my coaching style and knowledge. I continued to coach the Mustang Hockey club for 3 seasons. Since then I have made myself available to goalies around the region to conduct private, and semi-private lessons.
